We’re a small family breeder of Golden Retrievers based in Somerset, and everything we do started from a simple place, a love of these beautiful dogs and the joy they bring to family life.
Like many families, our journey into breeding began with our own dogs. Wanting to do the very best for them, and for their puppies, we gradually developed a deeper understanding of fertility, pregnancy and whelping. What started as learning for our own litters soon grew into a real passion.
Over time, we expanded our skills into fertility support and canine pregnancy ultrasound scanning. From that, The Somerset Midwoof was created so we could share our knowledge and offer practical, supportive help to other breeders.
Today, I combine hands-on breeding experience with clinical training and accredited ultrasound practice to provide calm, reliable pregnancy scanning and support. I understand how important reassurance is during this time, and my aim is always to make the process as relaxed and positive as possible, for both you and your dog.
Whether you’re new to breeding or simply want an extra pair of experienced hands along the way, I’m here to support you with clear, kind and non-judgemental guidance.

We offer Canine ultrasound scanning to confirm pregnancy in the comfort of your home to minimise stress to your girl. We have a portable veterinary quality ultrasound machine so that your dog pregnancy scan is as relaxing as possible for you dog. We also offer ovulation cytology and a full whelping service, either here or to support you
We offer Canine ultrasound scanning to confirm pregnancy in the comfort of your home to minimise stress to your girl. We have a portable veterinary quality ultrasound machine so that your dog pregnancy scan is as relaxing as possible for you dog. We also offer ovulation cytology and a full whelping service, either here or to support you at home. We cover Somerset, North Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Yeovil and Dorset
Canine Pregnancy Ultrasound Scan. Whelping support. Ovulation cytology
Whelping support, flexible to suit your needs. A typical package at your home involves a pre-whelp visit to gain her trust. Attendance and support throughout the whelping and a post whelp visit and costs £300
Ovulation cytology involves taking a small smear, at your home with same day results. It is minimally invasive, avoids unpleasant blood tests and clinic visits and can confirm ovulation with very high levels of accuracy. Cost £35 per visit.
Pregnancy confirmation scanning is best done between 32-35 days, for the clearest view but we can scan from 28 days. We can scan at your home within a 25 mile radius. Scanning costs £35 plus £5 for travel within 10 miles and £7.50 for travel between 10-25 miles. We try to reduce travel costs by grouping appointments in the same area, to avoid disappointment we recommend booking your scan once y
Scanning is a painless and safe procedure, some gel on the tummy and gentle movement of the scanner. Most girls are very relaxed about it, and enjoy the tickles and attention! The whole procedure only takes 15 minutes at most. She doesn’t even need to be shaved! We’re not qualified to identify problems/disease, only to confirm pregnancy
